In line with its new international focus, Indian telco Bharti Airtel has announced the promotion of Dr. Jai Menon, currently Group CIO, Bharti Enterprises and Director – Technology & Customer Service, Bharti Airtel, to Group Director - IT, effective from April 1, 2010. In this position, Menon will steer the various businesses of Bharti Enterprises on the IT front and establish security standards, build alliances with the likes of IBM, Google, Apple and Microsoft. Menon will also work closely with the International Business Group led by Manoj Kohli, the group CEO and joint MD. Update: Chris Tobit is in charge of Airtel's latest takeover, Bangladeshi telco Warid. From Director Sales & Operations, Enterprise Services, Bharti Airtel, he is now MD & CEO of Airtel Bangladesh, reported BDNews. The company also announced Amrita Gangotra will take over as Director - IT, Bharti Airtel (India and South Asia) and will report to Sanjay Kapoor, CEO (India and South Asia). She is currently heading the IT operations at Bharti Airtel as CIO - Mobile Services. Sanjay Kapoor, who was recently promoted to CEO (India and South Asia) will begin on March 1, 2010.
