albert-almeida-hungamaAlbert Almeida, former EVP and Business Head of Sony Entertainment Television (SET) has joined Hungama Digital Media as Chief Operating Officer for their Mobile Business. Almeida will be responsible for Hungama’s Domestic and International Mobile business covering Entertainment, Platforms and Applications Businesses. He was with SET for 6 years with SET in varied roles ranging from Head of Marketing to the Business Head of Max, their movies and events channel. He joins in place of Saleem Mobhani, who moved to head Airtel’s Mobile Entertainment vertical in June.

Crossing over from the Media space to Mobile should be an interesting experience for Almeida: as a content distributor or aggregator, one has to deal with the carriage companies. In case of a media business – with MSOs and DTH operators over carriage, in case of digital, with telecom operators over revenue share. Hungama has recently launched its Music Download service, with both Internet and Mobile components, and the company should be pushing for a data revenue share from operators. That’ll be a tough ask, for anyone.

Star is trying to copy the widget based distribution developed by Nautanki.tv. They would do better to focus on better content programming and planning instead and nit have their NLT share whipped by Colors
