Atanu Mandal

Mobile  industry veteran Atanu Mandal, who has been at the helm of telecom value added services firm ACL Wireless since 2004, has put in his papers and will be moving to another company in the telecom space soon, MediaNama has learnt.

Mandal was President and Director on the board of ACL Wireless and responsible for overall sales and operations, service delivery and product development for the company. Confirming the move, Mandal told Medianama, ”I put in my papers on the 11th (of September) and will be joining

my new assignment in a few weeks.” He was unwilling to share any more information on the new role – except that it will be in the telecom space – or the reason for the move. He has handed over his duties to the founder of ACL Wireless, Sanjay Goel. ACL Wireless is backed by Naspers’ investment arm MIH Holdings and Inter-Asia Venture Management.

Mandal had set up the first ASP (application service provider) in India - Cellnext – and led it as Managing Director and CEO for three years before joining ACL Wireless. An IIT Delhi-IIM Ahmedabad graduate, Mandal has also held top positions at Telstra’s India operations in 1996, which was a joint venture with BK Modi’s ModiCorp (which owned and sold Spice Telecom to Idea Cellular) for GSM telecom operations in Calcutta and Swisscom’s India operations, which was again a joint venture with Essar Group for GSM telecom  operations  in Delhi, Haryana, UP & Rajasthan in 1998.
