Update: Our sources have confirmed that Agarwal will join as CEO; ContentSutra had reported the same earlier.

Medianama has learned from reliable sources that Manish Agarwal, currently Marketing Director at Microsoft India’s Developer and Platform Evangelism (DPE) division, is being hired as Chief Operating Officer Chief Executive Officer at UTV New Media.

He has neither confirmed nor denied the development. Speculation has been rife that Agarwal will be replacing TN Prabhu, the current CEO of UTV New Media. When we contacted TN Prabhu, he declined to comment.

Agarwal worked as VP, Marketing at Rediff for two years before moving to MSN, where he has been employed for a little over a year.

Am surprised. For the longest time(since rizwan and pawan left) UTV was searching for a CEO replacement but now glad they have found a good guy who understands the internet medium very well. Question is will Mr. TNP (CEO) and Mr. Mathur (Executve VP Sales operating from Delhi) let Manish work towards improving working relationships with UTV Group companies or keep working in Psylos !!!
Like TV 18, UTV also has a small window of opportunity. If they fail to leverage, they will miss the boat. Time for Ronnie to take active role in the new media management.

I think this was expected quite a while back. The change I mean. Prabhu led the charge and brought them from startup stage to this stage, now I think he moves ahead. Best of lucks to him.

I think UTV New Media has a good set of properties. They just need a good hand at the helm for vision and direction. That ought to do the trick. They cover trendy tech, enterprise tech, finance, movies, television, gaming…what else ? I think maybe be travel is missing..but there s an overdose of that anyway…
