The OLPC project is currently having great success with Uruguayan teachers and students. When this vision started to garner mainstream media attention back in 2005 a typical laptop was between $600-1000 dollars. So Negroponte's $100 vision was astounding and some thought it was impossible. Fast forward to 2009 and today <a href="http://www.cheaperlaptop.com" target="_blank">cheap laptops</a> can now be purchased for under $300, with 160GB hard drives and impressive specs.

Hopefully Negronte can bring down the cost of the OLPC laptop from $180 to $100 so that more kids around the world can benefit from these machines. they will definitely receive more orders at $100 than $210 per unit.
